Data Science - Analytics Home

Why is this Important?

  • Watching videos on the subject helps you understand the true nature of the major
  • Viewing student work helps you see the quality and complexity of what you’ll study
  • Videos allow you to see facilities, and resources of schools that teach the major

More About Data Science - Analytics

"Research in data science at Princeton integrates three strengths: the fundamental mathematics of machine learning; the interdisciplinary application of machine learning to solve a wide range of real-world problems; and deep examination and innovation regarding the societal implications of artificial intelligence, including issues such as bias, equity, and privacy."

"The curriculum is designed to cover the spectrum of learning needed to achieve domain area expertise in Applied Data Science. The courses are chosen to be both cross-cutting, i.e., intermixing students from across the university in fundamental Data Science concepts such as scripting and statistics, and domain area focused, such as those related to engineering & physical sciences, health, and business."

"The intercollege Data Sciences major will educate students on the technical fundamentals of data sciences, with a focus on developing the knowledge and skills needed to manage and analyze large scale unstructured data to address an expanding range of problems in industry, government, and academia. The underlying knowledge for data sciences derives from machine learning, data mining, computer science, statistics, and visualization, and the emerging science of managing and analyzing data at scale."

Shepherd’s Data Analytics program is designed to develop students who have advanced capacity to derive knowledge from data and to communicate an understanding of that knowledge. This includes skill in data collection, preparation, representation using mathematics, and storage and retrieval. It involves selection of and processing with appropriate methods, development and analysis of algorithms, and implementation in computer programming languages.
