More About Energy Science

"Our new energy engineering program is one of only a handful in the country that will prepare you to work on sustainable energy solutions, evaluate life cycle energy costs, and address fossil fuel shortages and effects on the environment. You'll study topics from energy economics and policy to fuel conversion and energy systems to become a well-rounded engineer, ready to face the most significant challenges of the century."

At Montana Tech, petroleum engineering students learn drilling engineering, production engineering, and reservoir engineering, as well as receive hands-on lab and field experience in our unparalleled location in the Northern Rockies. In short, a large part of a petroleum engineer’s job is to find crude oil and natural gas for the country’s energy needs and design and develop methods for extracting them from below the Earth’s surface. In petroleum engineering, students develop an in-depth understanding of natural resource recovery, the economics of the industry, and respect for the environment.

"In electrical engineering, renewable energy focuses on how energy sources such as solar, wind, and others can be efficiently integrated into power systems. Students will study topics such as power systems, machines, controls, and converters, and learn to analyze, develop, and model complex renewable energy systems for sustainability."

"The primary objectives of petroleum engineering are the safe and environmentally sound exploration, evaluation, development and recovery of oil, gas, geothermal and other fluids in the earth. Skills in this branch of engineering are needed to meet the world’s ever-increasing demand for hydrocarbon fuel, thermal energy and waste and pollution management."
