Astronomy / Physics
University of Northern Colorado
Program Info: UNC’s school of Earth Sciences and Physics offers four different emphasis areas in Earth Science and five in Physics that majors can choose from which include Astronomy, Engineering, physics, liberal arts, mathematical physics, or secondary teaching. Physics is now a member of PTEC, the Physics Teacher Education Coalition. This is a national organization that supports efforts to improve the education of future physical science and physics teachers.
Students will be able to better understand the world we live in, so practical application of knowledge and laboratory/field studies are emphasized. Smaller class sizes, an accessible faculty, and undergraduate research and internship opportunities are characteristics of the school, as well as successful placement of graduates in advanced degree programs and in positions in education, industry and government and research facilities. Student activism in national science organizations is strongly encouraged by clubs such as the American Meteorological Society Student Chapter and the Society of Physics Students. So, for strong and supportive science programs where student learning is the top priority, UNC School of Earth Science and Physics is the place to be!
